Plumbing Systems

The drainage, venting and water distribution systems are inspected to ensure that they operate correctly and provide the occupants with a healthy living environment and safe drinking water. Our experience inspector reviews the assembly of the plumbing system components for compliance with the Ontario Building Code. The following is a list of the 11 major areas that are important to us:

• Materials & equipment

• Testing of drainage and venting systems

• Testing of potable water systems

• Protection of piping

• Support of piping

• Traps

• Kitec piping

• Arrangement of drainage piping

• Cleanouts

• Slope and length of drainage pipes

• Arrangement and size of venting pipes

• Protection from contamination of water piping

Kitec plumbing

Kitec plumbing consists of a flexible aluminum pipe between an internal and external layer of plastic pipe with brass fittings. Marketed as a more affordable and easy-to-install choice for copper piping, Kitec was sold between 1995 and 2007 for drinkable and hot-water systems. The sizing of the pipe requires fittings from its manufacturer, IPEX. These fittings were made with a high zinc content that caused premature failure in situations with aggressive water conditions. This situation, in turn, could either restrict water pressure or allow the fittings to fail, rendering flooding and water damage to homes.
